Gold Coast [i.e. Ghana] Government's School for senior boys (Tamale, Northern Territories), 1945
Scope and Contents
A series of British Official photographs (Crown Copyright Reserved). They each have the following typewritten caption on the reverse:
'The Gold Coast Government believes in rooting its education in the life of the people. Key institutions in the education system of the Northern Territories of the Gold Coast are at Tamale and include a senior boarding school for boys and a training college for teachers. The people of the Northern Territories of the Gold Coast are first and foremost farmers, so an important post is that of a manager of the school and college farms. The manager works under direction of both Education and Agricultural Officers and aims at improving the farming of his countrymen e.g. showing how stock and crops improve in the mixed farming system. Hand in hand with Northern Territories farming go rural crafts. At the School and College Crafts Centre Senior school pupils and college students learn how these can be improved and developed in the villages to which they will return for their life's work'.
