'Situated in thick bush country at Ishere fifteen miles from Lagos, Nigeria, is a modern approved school. Here some sixty boys have built themselves a small village at a spot which, little more than a year ago, was thick bush. There are no bolts or bars in this Institute. The boys have almost complete freedom and are kept at the institute by bonds of affection alone.

Ranging in age from 11 to 17 years, all the boys are convicted thieves. Most of them are from poor homes where they had little real affection. They felt unwanted and they turned to crime. Now they are learning to become healthy honest tradesmen. Mr. Donald Faulkner, Social Welfare Officer, who was an expert in child delinquency, is responsible for the setting up of the Institute which is run on lines as modern as anything of a like nature in Britain or the United States of America. Said Mr. Faulkner 'We aim to remove the impression that they are unwanted, we make them feel useful members of the community'.
