Udi Village, 1945-08-21
Scope and Contents
Showing a youth writing on a blackboard with the date 21/8/45. A typewritten caption (which duplicates most of a pencilled annotation) on the reverse reads 'During the war literacy pupils sent letters to their soldier relatives abroad. Those who could copy but not compose a letter used to copy as an exercise a letter giving the Udi Village news'. The annotation continues 'Thus each batch of letters would contain about 40 that were all the same but as each went to a different soldier that did not matter'.
