The Imperial Wireless and Cable Conference, 1928, 1928

Scope and Contents

270 x 180 mm. Group of twenty-one participants posed in the garden of a substantial terraced building. The conference was called to consider the problem of rivalry between companies involved in beam wireless and the cable service. It began its meetings in January 1928 under the chairmanship of Sir John Gilmour (seated 5th from left) as Chairman and Sir Campbell Stuart of Canada (on his right) as Chairman of the advisory committee. After more than thirty meetings it recommended a union of activities which resulted in the formation of Imperial and International Communications Ltd., which became Cable and Wireless in 1934. Photographer unknown.
