Annotated to the side of the print, in pencil and in a different hand to the title, and possibly written by the original cataloguer, are the following captions: '75 G. Prince, Farrier Central W. St, H + R, drapers, P. Henwood, ironmongers, Brittania Hse. West Street, West'; 'Before 1879'; 'Central West Street looking West.' This photograph was probably taken in the mid 1870's: by 1879 the drapery firm of Henwood and Roseveare is no longer listed in the 'Natal Almanac, Directory and Register.' (Vietzen, 1963).
