British Official photographs.

Junior officers for the Gold Coast Department of Agriculture receive their training at the Kumasi Agricultural Centre. Staffed by an agricultural officer and two assistants, the centre provides a three year course. Young men from the secondary schools spend a first year in the Training Centre, a second year on field work and a third year at the Centre. They are taught agricultural principles about the cultivation of the soil and the maintenance of soil fertility. A flock of poultry is kept to teach the trainees about the feeding and management of livestock. The scientific approach to the elimination of insect pests, and diseases of plants and animals is a feature of the training. After the course the young men are able to join the Department of Agriculture as Assistant officers. The Centre also provides a refresher course.
