General Magazines and Newspaper Supplements, 2000 - 2015
Scope and Contents
A box containing magazines and newspaper supplements, both full issues and tearsheets, along with a computer printout featuring an article from an internet-based journal. These items feature articles that are either about Roger Law or Spitting Image, mention him or the show, or contain some form of contribution from Law. The following are present:
1. Issue autumn 2000 of the Anglia Polytechnic University [now Anglia Ruskin University] alumni magazine, Aspects. Page 5 features an article about Law, who delivered a lecture at the university's Cambridge campus, about his career.
2. Issue May/June 2014 of the contemporary craft magazine, Crafts. Page 99 features a short article on a Spitting Image exhibition being held at The Cartoon Museum, London. The article is accompanied by an image of the Norman Tebbit 'Tebbit's Law' plasticine model illustration.
3. Issue 27 March 2005 of The Sunday Times newspaper supplement, Culture. Page 49 contains a review of Roger Law's autobiography, Still Spitting at Sixty.
4. Issue 23 February 2014 of Event, a supplement for The Mail on Sunday newspaper. Pages 18 and 19 feature an article on the 30th anniversary of Spitting Image.
5. A computer printout of an article from the internet-based journal, Images & Narrative; Vol. 12 No. 3, 2011. The article is titled, Spitting Image and Pre-Televisual Political Satire: Graphics and Puppets to Screens, written by Kiene Brillenburg.
6. Tearsheets with pages 41 to 45 from the The Mail on Sunday supplement, Night & Day, dated 30 April 2000. These pages contain an article by British politician, Roy Hattersley, about Spitting Image. This article was written in the wake of the news that the show's puppets were to be auctioned off at Sotheby's.
7. Issue 9-15 July 2000 of the Sunday Express Magazine. The cover features a photograph of several Spitting Image puppets, and pages 8 to 11 have an article on the upcoming Sotheby's auction.
8. Issue 25/Summer 2001 of Tate: The Art Magazine. Pages 25 to 33 have an extended article on British caricaturist, James Gillray. Pages 32 and 33 have a section written by Roger Law, and they feature images from the Luck & Flaw era and Spitting Image.
9. Tearsheets from the 3 October 2015 issue of the newspaper supplement, The Guardian Weekend. These tearsheets feature an article on British actor and comedian, Steve Coogan. This article mentions Coogan's time as an impressionist on Spitting Image.
10. Issue April 2014 of the magazine, The Oldie. Pages 48 and 49 feature an article, written by former Spitting Image script writer, Nick Newman, about the show and a Spitting Image exhibition held at The Cartoon Museum, in London.
11. Issue 19 March 2006 of The Independent on Sunday newspaper supplement, The Sunday Review. Pages 12 to 16 feature an article on one of the creators of Spitting Image, Tony Hendra.
12. Issue 5 February 2012/50th Anniversary edition of The Sunday Times Magazine. There are images of the magazine's front covers, between 1962 and 2012, some of which feature work by Roger Law and Luck & Flaw.
13. Issue September-December 2002 of V&A Friends Magazine. Pages 22 and 23 feature an article on the Design and Art Direction Awards, and it mentions Spitting Image's wins in the 1980s.
14. November 2010 issue of Vice. Pages 48 to 55 have an article on Spitting Image.
