Radio Times, 2010 - 2023
Scope and Contents
A file containing full issues of and photocopies of pages taken from the British television magazine, Radio Times. The following items are present:
1. Issue 17-23 April 2010 - page 9 features an article by the former producer of Spitting Image, John Lloyd, which is accompanied by a plasticine model illustration of Margaret Thatcher smoking, previously used in various Spitting Image Productions Limited publications. Pages 20 to 23 feature plasticine model illustrations, made by Roger Law and former members of the Spitting Image Workshop, relating to the 2010 British general election (SI/533 and 534).
2. Issue 24-30 April 2010 - page 26 features a plasticine model illustration of the party leader for the Liberal Democrats, Nick Clegg, made by Roger Law and former members of the Spitting Image Workshop, as part of an article connected to the 2010 British general election (SI/536).
3. Issue 1-May 2010 - pages 20 and 21 feature a plasticine model illustration of the Conservative Party leader, David Cameron, made by Roger Law and former members of the Spitting Image Workshop, as part of an article connected to the 2010 British general election (SI/535).
4. Issue 15-21 March 2014 - pages 32 to 37 have two articles that relate to the BBC Arena episode, Whatever Happpened to Spitting Image? The first article is written by John Lloyd and discusses whether the show could be made today [2014]. The second article is written by Roger Law, and explores his visit to Russia to investigate what happened to the Russian Spitting Image franchise, Kukly. Both articles are illustrated with Spitting Image imagery.
5. Photocopies of two pages taken from the 17-23 July 2021 issue, which contain an article relating to Georgia Pritchett's memoir, My Mess Is a Bit of a Life. Pritchett was a writer on the original Spitting Image series, and the show is mentioned in the article, which is accompanied by an image of John Major and Margaret Thatcher puppets.
6. A photocopy of a page taken from the 2-8 September 2023 issue, which features an article on the BBC Radio 4 Spitting Image reunion programme, which originally aired on 3 September.
Also present is an optical disc, which contains digital copies of the four plasticine model illustrations used in the 2010 issues, and a piece of card that has prints of those illustrations.
