This file contains a draft article (presumably by Lady Smedley) entitled ‘The Position of Women in Ghanaian Society’ or ‘Women’s Lib in Ghana’ with letter attached from George Darby (PA to editor of ‘The Sunday Times’) regretting that it cannot be included in the newspaper, 10 December 1971 and a similar note of rejection from the editor of the ‘Look’; two drafts by Lady Smedley of an obituary for Dr Susan De Graft Johnson (nee Ofori Atta), along with published versions in ‘The Times’ and ‘West Africa’ (both 22 July 1985); programme of requiem mass for De Graft Johnson (in London), and of burial, memorial and thanksgiving service, 2-3 August 1985; colour photograph captioned, ‘The Wunooheue(?) and his Elders’; newspaper cutting from ‘Financial Times’, ‘Ghana’s recovery programme: the economics of desperation’, 22 February 1984; article from West Africa, ‘Ghana: the respectable poor’, 25 July 1983; postcards and letter from artist Noelle Simpson inviting the Smedleys to the first exhibition of her paintings, drawings and photographs, 9 August 1985; copy of special report in ‘The Times’ on Ghana, 24 September 1980 (circa 50 sheets).
