Scope and Contents
The file includes a letter thanking Lady Smedley for her donation to the Mampong Babies’ Home, 18 July 1978, with May 1978 newsletter; two small notebooks, one entitled ‘Abesim’, containing entries by Lady Smedley on her visit there in December 1966, the other ‘Tour Notebook’, contains notes from her reading on Ghana; letter from Lady Smedley regarding church missionary allocation to Abesim health centre, 19 January 1982; photocopies of journal articles on the Akan of Ghana, resulting from a seminar held in Legon, 1965; letter and questionnaire from Lady Smedley to Nana Twene (incumbent Queen Mother of Abesim) regarding practices and customs, 19 March 1981, with replies from Queen Mother, 16 May, 21 July 1981; Christmas cards; 3 pages of handwritten notes by Lady Smedley apparently listing the contents of several boxes, possibly of photographs, relating to Ghana; press cuttings, reporting Lady Smedley’s enstoolment as Queen Mother, as well as stories relating to Ghanaian education, church projects, and several telegrams congratulating Lady Smedley on her enstoolment, 1966-67 (circa 60 sheets).
