Scope and Contents
This file contains notes, transcripts, correspondence, advertisements and guest-lists relating to speeches that Lady Smedley gave to the Sri Lanka Women’s Conference, June 1975; the Levin Plunket Society, October 1976; and the interprovincial conference of The Women's Division Federated Farmers of New Zealand, November 1976. Later speeches deal with her experiences as the wife of a diplomat and her book ‘Partners in diplomacy’ given to the English-Speaking Union, 19 February, 10 April 1991; Ferring Probus Club, 18 December 1991;West Worthing, 18 June 1992; and Ladies Probus, 27 June 1999. The file also includes transcripts of speeches on ‘The Normandy Landings’ and ‘New Zealand as country to live which may be by either Sir Harold or Lady Smedley (circa 100 sheets).
