This file contains material relating to Smedley’s trip to Antarctica, 1978, including maps of the various work stations in operation; correspondence from New Zealand Department of Scientific and Industrial Research Antarctic Division; itineraries; list of personnel; list of VIPs travelling alongside Smedley; official printed material from the New Zealand Antarctic Division including copies of research programme reports for 1977-1979; and copies of ‘New Zealand in the Antarctic’; ‘Antarctica: Operation Deep Freeze’; L.B. Quartermain, ‘South from New Zealand: An Introduction to Antarctica’ (Wellington, 1964); ‘Antarctica: a guide to the displays at the Canterbury Museum, Christchurch, New Zealand’; ‘Antarctica’ (Reeds’ Kowhai colour books); and five colour postcards of Antarctic scenes (circa 100 sheets).
