Great Britain, 1866
Scope and Contents
160 x 115 mm image of the famous sailing ship built at Bristol in 1843. During a voyage to Panama it was severely damaged by storms in May 1866 and sought refuge in Stanley. There the ship was purchased by the Falkland Islands Company and used as a storage hulk. In 1970, the 'Great Britain' was salvaged and returned to Bristol, becoming a major heritage attraction.
