The caption reads, 'Frontier Light Horse on the border of Zululand at Eland's Nék December 1879 [1878] waiting to advance into Zululand to join Colonel Wood’s No. 4 Column at Utrich on the 1st January l879, when I was transferred to the Royal Artillery under Major Trimlet'.
