Clove export, 1933 - 1948
Scope and Contents
190 x 150 mm. The caption continues: ' The cloves are packed in large bales for export to all parts of the world. The large ocean liners are unable to come alongside the wharf so the cloves are taken out by lighters to the ships which anchor in the harbour. (Part of the old city of Zanzibar) with it's large stone built Arab houses is seen in the background).' Three of these buildings are identified as: 'Customs Office, Sultan's Palace, Administration Building.'
