[A Zanzibar dhow], 1933 - 1947
Scope and Contents
210 x 160 mm. The caption continues: 'This particular type of dhow, which plies down the east coast of Africa during the northeast monsoon. They have altered but little during the last two thousand years and their enormous size may be gauged by the amount of cargo carried by this one ... three thousand bags of grain. This peaceable cargo is a great change from the grim days when they carried cargoes of slaves down the coast.'
