Scope and Contents

Five issues of the British weekly cultural magazine, The Listener, which was published by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). The following issues are present:

1. 7 March 1985 - page 29 contains an article on Spitting Image.

2. 25 July 1985 - the front cover has a photographic illustration containing a Spitting Image puppet of satirist, James Gillray (SI/687), and pages 13 and 14 have an article on the development of British satire, which references the work of Luck & Flaw [Peter Fluck and Roger Law] and a BBC Omnibus episode centred around their work, due to be broadcast by BBC 1 on 26 July.

3. 17 April 1986 - pages 14 and 15 contain an article on Spitting Image, which is accompanied by a still shot taken from the show of the puppets of Neil Kinnock and three other Labour Party politicians.

4. 5 January 1989 - pages 8 to 10 contain an article on the prospect of multi-channel television in the United Kingdom and the worry that it will lead to reduced quality in programming, similar to American television. As part of the article, it makes reference to the three Spitting Image American special episodes, produced for the broadcaster, NBC.

5. 1 November 1990 - pages 14 and 15 contain an article on Spitting Image and the wider activities of Spitting Image Productions Limited. The article is accompanied by several images, including a group photograph of Peter Fluck, Roger Law and William Sargent.
