Krazy Kat, 1989 - 1997
Scope and Contents
Material relating to the production of a pilot episode for a stop-motion animation series, based upon American cartoonist George Herriman's comic strip, Krazy Kat. Work on this project appears to begin in c 1989-c 1990, but does not gain traction until 1994, when Spitting Image Productions Limited approached Hearst Entertainment [owner of the Krazy Kat intellectual property] about doing a 52-episode series. A pilot was made in 1996. The BBC documentary series, Arena, was also approached about doing a programme on Herrimen, which would have featured the pilot. However, this was abandoned when funding from the Arts Council for this project could not be secured. In an attempt to raise interest in a Krazy Kat series, the idea was put forward to have the pilot transferred to film and screened in a cinema, and in doing so make the feature eligible for a short animation film Academy Award. It is unclear whether that actually happened. A Krazy Kat series was never produced.
This section has been split into the following: a file containing reference and research material; a file holding production documentation; and a portfolio with several copies of a storyboard for the pilot.

Arrangement
Originally, there were four folders with paperwork relating to Krazy Kat, along with the storyboard portfolio. In those four files there were significant overlap and duplication in contents. Therefore, duplication was weeded out and the contents separated into two files: one with reference and research material, and the other with production correspondence and documentation.
Separated Materials
The Photographic Material series holds related items, as does the Audiovisual sub-fonds.
General
A significant amount of duplication has been weeded out of the files found in this section.
