Writers' Contracts, 1983 - 1991
Scope and Contents
Contracts, accompanying correspondence and other documentation for writers, along with lyricists and composers, who wrote material during the first six series of Spitting Image, as well as special episodes produced during that period. Two types of writers submitted work for the show: commissioned writers and non-commissioned writers. The commissioned writers, such as Rob Grant, Doug Naylor, Ian Hislop and Nick Newman; were contracted by Spitting Image Production to write a certain amount of material for the programme, and subject to deadlines. Non-commissioned writers were members of the general public and non-contracted professional writers, who were encouraged by SIPL to submit sketches for possible inclusion in the show, and they received a standard fee if successful.
