Biographical / Historical
Sir James Comyn MacGregor (1861-1935) was born at Fortwilliam and educated at Felsted School and Bonn. He was a Lieutenant in the 7th Battalion of the King's African Rifles, 1880-1884, before serving as Sub-Inspector of the Basutoland Mounted Police, 1884-1891, and Assistant Commissioner in Basutoland, 1891-1912. He was Government Secretary, Bechuanaland Protectorate, 1912-1916, Deputy Resident Commissioner, Basutoland, 1916-1917, and Resident Commissioner, Bechuanaland, 1917-1923. He retired in 1924, and died in January 1935.
