Two letters from Alison McBean to her school friend Diana Hartley describing her new home and way of life. One letter, from the Vaak River, is undated, but was probably written in November 1911 (3 pages). The second letter is from Kimberley, 15 January 1912 (4 pages).

Biographical / Historical
Alison McBean went with her family to South Africa in 1911 when she was about 17 years old. Diana Hartley (1894-1986) was the first full-time Secretary of the Trained Nurses Association of India (T.N.A.I.), 1935-1944. She died on 15 July 1986.
