A typescript copy of a letter from Putnam to his brother John, 8 July 1849, describing a voyage to East Africa in the 'Emily Wilder' and a meeting with his brother Horace (2 pages). There is an accompanying note by D.H. Simpson, R.C.S. Librarian, March 1969, providing background information (1 page).
