Biographical / Historical

Professor S.J. Kenneth Baker's background is not known. Ernest Balfour Haddon (1882-1976) travelled to East Africa in 1905 to take up the post of Assistant Collector. He remained in Africa until 1929, holding posts in Uganda and Sudan. After his retirement he embarked on a new career as a lecturer in Swahili.
