Scope and Contents

A photocopy of the transcript of a short story read on the B.B.C. World Service, July-August 1968, based on a true incident in the life of Michael Wilson in British Somaliland. Wilson is referred to as Tom Blake in the story. There is an accompanying manuscript letter from Mrs Ursula E. Sykes-Thompson providing background information, 17 August 1998.

Biographical / Historical

Cyril Sykes-Thompson attended Queens' College, Cambridge. He was Director of Education in British Somaliland where he served with Michael Wilson, Colonial Service District Commissioner. He was awarded an M.B.E. after risking his life in the pursuit of his duties. After British Somaliland gained independence he became Director of Education in Kenya before settling in Spain.
