Biographical / Historical
Edward Peregrine Gueritz (1855-1938) was born on 18 March 1855. He was educated privately and at St Andrew's School, Stoke Newington. He worked in the Sarawak Civil Service, 1874-1877, and the Bank of New Zealand, 1877-1880. He was Assistant Resident, North Borneo, 1882-1884, and Collector and Magistrate, Malay States, 1885-1890. Guertiz was Sessions Judge and Judicial Commissioner in Labuan and North Borneo, 1891-1903, and Governor and Commander-in-Chief, Labuan, 1903-1906, and North Borneo, 1903-1912. He died on 3 August 1938.
