Scope and Contents
'Oilette' postcards of the Gold Coast, published for the British Empire Exhibition of 1924 by Raphael Tuck and Sons, in their original envelopes. The postcards, which were made at the request of Sir Gordon Guggisberg, are coloured reproductions from paintings by Edith Cheesman and were issued in six sets of six. This collection comprises Series I, II (lacking 1 card), IV, V and VI.
Each postcard has two numbers annotated on the reverse, usually in the top right-hand corner, one in ink and one in pencil. The pencilled numbers correspond to the catalogue numbers.
