Scope and Contents

150 x 202 mm. A studio portrait of a pretty smiling Swahili girl wearing gaily patterned clothes, a headdress and a row of shirt buttons as earrings. 'Her gala costume consists of a head-dress of coloured silk made up into a kind of extravagant turban or mob-cap... Her body is decorously and elaborately clothed in patterned and coloured fabrics of varying qualities... ' (Pearce 1920).
