Non-commission Magazines, 1976 - 1986
Scope and Contents
A box containing a variety of British and international magazines and other publications, along with some tearsheets, which feature interviews with Roger Law and Peter Fluck and/or illustrations by Luck & Flaw that were previously published in other outlets.
The following are present:
1. Issue 15 (out of 15) of the Dutch magazine series, 58 Miljoen Nederlanders; this issue is titled, in Angermans Ogen. Page 418 features the plasticine model 'The United States of Europe' illustration, which originally adorned the cover of the 7 November 1976 issue of The Sunday Times Magazine; photographic image taken by John Lawrence Jones (L&F/116 (e)).
2. Issue June/July 1983 of German lifestyle magazine, Ambiente, which features an article on the partnership and their early work for Spitting Image, on pages 166 to 177.
3. Full issue and tearsheets from the November/December 1983 edition of Crafts, which features an article on the partnership and their upcoming Spitting Image series.
4. Issue No. 196 Vol. 34 of Graphis: International Journal of Graphic Art and Applied Art, which features an article on The Sunday Times Magazine, on pages 98 to 113. There are a number of images of covers and other items that feature Luck & Flaw, and also early Roger Law, illustrations.
5. Issue 19 October 1981 of the British magazine, Ms. London, which features an article on the partnership and their ceramic ware.
6. A special 1985 edition of the Japanese art magazine, Idea, which focuses upon British visual communication designs between 1900 and 1985. On page 107, there are images of the Ronald Reagan and Leonid Brezhnev 'Warheads' illustration (L&F/199) and the Norman Tebbit 'Boot Boy' illustration (L&F/227 (a)); original photographic images taken by John Lawrence Jones.
7. Issue No. 24 1978 (annual/exhibition issue) of Illustrators, the newsletter of the Association of Illustrators. Pages 6 to 8 feature an article on the partnership.
8. Issue No. 2 1976 of Novum Gebrauchsgraphik, which features an article on the plasticine model caricatures produced by both Roger Law, prior to the partnership, and Luck & Flaw, between pages 34 and 41.
9. A brochure distributed at a 'Safe Energy Rally,' arranged by Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace, which was held on the 5 September 1986 in London. Within the brochure, there is an advert for Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson ceramic eggcups, produced by the partnership. The middle page has an order of events for the rally, which includes the projection of a Spitting Image clip.
10. Issue September 1982 (No. 3 Vol. 9) of Upper and Lower Case: The International Journal of Typographics, which features an article on the partnership between pages 16 and 19.
11. Issue 5 December 1982 of The Mail on Sunday newspaper supplement, You, which features an article on the British rock band, The Who, and includes an image of their The Who Sell Out album cover, which was designed by Roger Law and David King.
