Lecture IV Karoo and Veld : an open Cat, 1910-01
Scope and Contents
Though the album is inserted here to avoid a gap in the numbering, it is not part of the Fisher Collection as such. It is however an album of the same type as those containing Fisher's own photographs and is labelled on the spine 'VIC South Africa Lectures IV, V, VI'. It appears to be a record album of the lantern slides used to accompany the Visual Instruction Committee lectures. From the captions it originally contained illustrations for the three lectures mentioned: Lecture IV: Karoo and Veld - numbers 2-22; 24-36; 38-45 and 47-63; Lecture V: Transvaal - numbers 2-12, 14-64; Lecture VI: Bechuanaland and Southern Rhodesia [all missing] - numbers 2-24 and 26-63. These were in fact all the actual photographs, the missing numbers were for maps. However, of the original total of 182 photographs, only 78 remain and these are listed without mention of the missing items. The photographs are all 110 x 80 mm but the actual picture occupies only 72 x 45 mm. Presumably there are other volmes preserving a record of the lantern slides to accompany the lectures but this is the only one known to survive.
