Carnation Revolution, 1974
Scope and Contents
A file containing research material for an article on the Carnation Revolution, which saw the overthrow of the Estado Novo regime in Portugal on 25 April 1974, via a military coup; along with exposure on the tortures and murders committed on the opponents of the regime by its secret police. Items present include: photographic material; notes; copies of testimonies, in Portuguese, given by individuals tortured by the Estado Novo regime, along with English translations; and issue No. 1896 of the Portuguese magazine, O Século Ilustrado.
Roger Law travelled to Portugal in the aftermath of the revolution to conduct research, and wrote an article with Alex Mitchell, which appeared in the 14 July 1974 issue of The Sunday Times Magazine (RL/Pre-/1035).
