Portfolio 5, 1964 - 1972
Scope and Contents
A portfolio containing original artwork, mounted on and framed by card, which have been produced by Roger Law for his work with various publications. Some of these card mountings contain instructions for printers.
The following items are present:
1. A collaged pencil drawing featuring a representation of author and literary critic, Cyril Connolly, which was used in an issue of The Sunday Times (RL/Pre-/816).
2. Two coloured pencil drawings of two individual figures: a crooked banker and a gambler; both used in a piece called, The Western Game, published in the 10 October 1965 issue of The Observer Magazine (RL/Pre-/750 (a)-(b)).
3. A pencil drawing of two men at a club bar. This image was used to illustrate the article, No Spare Birds Down at the Wheel, written by Jane Wilson, which was published in the 24 October 1965 issue of The Sunday Times Magazine (RL/Pre-/749 (a)).
4. A pencil drawing of two women, which was used in the book, Synthetic Fun, written by Jeremy Sandford and illustrated by Law (RL/Pre-/810).
5. A colour photograph montage containing a plasticine model illustration used for an article, Seifert on Our Skyline, featured in the 13 February 1972 issue of The Sunday Times Magazine (RL/Pre-/753 (c)).
6. A pencil drawing that is bordered with printed cards containing Chinese logograms, which was used in the article, The World of the Chinese Waiter, written by Francis Wyndham. This article was published in the 1 May 1966 issue of The Sunday Times Magazine (RL/Pre-/787 (b) - incorrectly labelled as (a)).
7. Two woodcut prints with a representation of American writer and civil rights activist, James Baldwin, which was used to illustrate Baldwin's article, Why I stopped Hating Shakespeare, published in the 19 April 1964 issue of The Observer Weekend Review (RL/Pre-/819).
8. A pencil drawing of two men on a package holiday. This image was used in the book, Synthetic Fun (RL/Pre-/978 (b)).
