Political Leaflets and Publications, 1960-c 1962
Scope and Contents
A file containing a small number of political-based items, which feature illustrations by Roger Law. The following items are present: two copies of a four-page leaflet that has 16 drawings by Law, titled, Welcome to Annual Conference, which was published by Young Socialists in Cambridge to illustrate 'Democracy in Action,' and was likely handed out at a Labour Party conference in either 1960 or 1961 (RL/Pre-/824 (b)); two copies of an earlier version of the Welcome to Annual Conference leaflet (RL/Pre-/824 (a)); a drawing in pen, titled, Tory Birds, which depicts four Conservative politicans as birds in tuxedos (RL/Pre-/875), the image of which was later used as part of a giant cartoon strip displayed at Peter Cook's The Establishment nightclub; two copies of a leaflet with a photograph of the Labour Party leader, Hugh Gaitskell, on the front, with the image surrounded by a drawing of a television set and the tagline underneath, 'Stand firm on Berlin,' along with further drawings by Law on the interior pages (RL/Pre-/975); and a 4 October 1961 daily bulletin issue of New Left Review, published during the Labour Party conference at Blackpool, which contains an illustration by Law on page 4, titled, Annual Bingo (RL/Pre-/993).
