Scope and Contents

The work has the running title 'Of the art of printing'; on a waste leaf at the beginning is the statement that 'This treatise of ye first invention of prenting was collected by Mr Richard Smith: prothoniter of Woodstrete counter: the origenall coppey of his one hand writing is now in the handes of Mr Fletewood.'

In the Library by the mid 1750s. According to Thomas Baker, who made extracts c. 1728 (Mm.01.43, pp. 521-4), it was from the library of John Moore (1646–1714), Bishop of Ely (‘Royal Library’).
