The work has the running title 'Of the art of printing'; on a waste leaf at the beginning is the statement that 'This treatise of ye first invention of prenting was collected by Mr Richard Smith: prothoniter of Woodstrete counter: the origenall coppey of his one hand writing is now in the handes of Mr Fletewood.'
