Scope and Contents

(1)-(5) ‘Prælectiones Mosis Amyraldi professoris, in diversos locos SS. habitæ’, all apparently copied in the same hand, which is similar to that in MS Dd.10.40, (1) ‘In c. 24 Evang. S. Matth’, (2) ‘Expositio cap. 12 Evang. S. Matth’, also ‘In Marc. c. 9, v. 48. prælectio’, (3) ‘Prælectio in Apocal. cap. 22. v. 1.’ and other passages, bearing the date Jan. 1661 (4) ‘Prælectiones in capp. i. ii. Ep. ad Romanos’, bearing the date 25 May 1660, (5) ‘Explicatio divv. locorum in primâ ad Corinth. epistolâ’; (6) (a) ‘Iter Britanniarum Antonini cum conjecturis de nominibus hodiernis quorundam locorum’, (b) ‘Roberti Talbot annotationes in eam partem Itinerarii Antonini quæ ad Britanniam pertinet’, with the endorsement ‘Notæ ... imperfectæ et depravatæ’; (7) fragment of the cartulary of the priory of Combwell, in Kent; (8) ‘Concio de miraculo v. panum, habita Oxoniis, regnante Henricio VIII’, a discourse preceded by a bidding prayer; (9) ‘Certain pedegrees declairing the Rosses consanguinity and affinity to sundrey families’ (amongst which are Fairfax, Constable, Shirley, Chester, the Earl of Shrewsbury, Lord Abergavenny, Savage, the Earl of Westmoreland and Lord Berkeley), referring to George Manners, 17th Lord Roos, who died in 1513; (10) ‘The breath of an unfeed lawyer, or, Beggers rownde’, with a dedication signed ‘Tho: Powell’; (11) a collection of prayers and meditations in Latin; (12) prayers and ascriptions of praise to the Virgin Mary, on the day of the annunciation, followed by humble congratulations to Queen Mary [of Modena] and rejoicings in the prospect of royal issue from her, probably written in 1688, with names and addresses in an eighteenth-century hand; (13) ‘Mr Alexander Akehurst’s charge 1654’ (which led to his ejection from fellowship of Trinity College, where he was bursar and vice-Master), with the ‘Defendant’s answer’; (14) ‘An exposition on the former part of the 2nd chap. by St Luke, or certain sermons on the nativitie of Christ made by C. W., ao. dni 1646’, with a dedication to John, Margaret and Dorothy Leventhorpe; (15) ‘The catechism of the Council of Trent dispos’d into short discourses, or discourses drawn out of the same catechism, being paraphras’d, translated, epitomiz’d, or enlarg’d, as occasion serv’d. Incept. in festo exalt. Smæ Crucis, 1686.’
