Scope and Contents
Copies of documents in various hands, and original letters. (1) 'Cahyer general des deputes de la religion et la response, 1625', docketed 'receaved Aug. 8. 1625'; includes 21 demands, with the responses to each; (2) 'Copie de la lettre de Mrs les ambrs du Roy de la Gra. Bret. a Mrs de la Rochelle du xie feburier. 1626; the letter was signed by 'Hollande' and 'Carleton' and dated 'De Paris'; (3) 15 original letters, 1626-27, to Sir Edward Barrett, late ambassador at Paris, relating chiefly to his private affairs; two are from G. Charlton and the majority of the remainder from two unidentified correspondents; with a memorandum relating to Spanish finance, the state of the exchanges, and the war in Silesia, Brussels, 16 April 1627; (4) (a) ‘Coppie de la remonstrance mise entre les mains de Monseigneur de Canova primier secretaire de la serenissime majesté’, (b) ‘Coppie des articles et conditions de paix por la ville de Rochelle’, (c) ‘Coppie de la lettre de Messieurs les ambassadeurs extraordinaires du serenissime roy de la Grande Bretagne’, Paris, 11 February 1626; (5) ‘Articles accordes et convenus entre le roy de France et les ambassadeurs extraordinaires de Etats des provinces Unies des Pays Bas a Compiegne an mois de Juin, 1624’; (6) printed proclamation declaring all ships carrying corn or other victual or munition for the king of Spain or his subjects to be lawful prizes, 31 December 1625; (7) ‘Declaration du roy pour la razement et demolition de toutes sortes de fortifications des villes et chasteaux, qui ne sont frontieres et importantes au royaume à Paris’, 1626; (8) printed proclamation forbidding any trade with Spain, 24 December 1625; (9) ‘Traité de ligue entre le roy, la Republique de Venise et le Duc de Savoye, pour le recouverement de la Valteline; concerté en Avignon, et arreté à Paris le 7e Feb. 1623’; (10) ‘Capitulne fatta in Spagna fra le Duc Core. per la pace de la Valtellina et di Genova’, with a note on the reverse stating ‘recd. 11/1 Aug.’ (1626); (11) ‘Remarques principales du livre intitule, ‘Admonitio ad regem Ludovicum XIII. par un Jesuite de Bavieres’; (12) ‘Questions to be enquyred after amongst the French marchants’; (13) notes on the French trade; at the end are the names of some ‘able to give good advise of all things that happen (especially for trade) in the places of their aboad’; (14) ‘Arrest de la court de Parlemt., toutes les chambres assemblées, donné contre les Jesuites le 17 de Mars. 1626’; (15) Acte baille par Mrs les Ambrs extraord. d’Angleterre aux deputes de la religion du xime Febv. 1626 st. n.’; (16) ‘Memoire de l’argent que j’ay recu à Paris tant de Mr Counet que des meubles que j’y ay vendus’, endorsed ‘Flower’s account taken July 30, 1627’, signed by Flower and E. Barrett, with a receipt dated 23 April and signed by E. Newburgh.
