While the surrounding scenery embraces one of the finest panoramas on the shores of the Mediterranean, the crystalline purity of the mountain springs hard by could only have been rivalled by the excellence of the wine that the neighbouring vineyards once supplied' (Thomson 1879, vol.1, p.24). The abbey lies about five miles east of Kyrenia.
