Scope and Contents
284 x 214 mm. A group photograph of the Sultan, European officials and Malay soldiers gathered on the steps of a specially erected open-sided wooden platform at some stage during the proceedings. Sultan Sir Ibrahim (1873-1959), who ruled from 1895 until his death, stands at the centre of the group next to Sir Arthur Henderson YOUNG (1854-1938), Governor of the Straits Settlements 1911-1919. Other figures identified in the group are: Mrs OLIVER; wife of staff officer; (Lady) Maud RIDOUT; wife of General Ridout; Lady Evelyn YOUNG; wife of Sir Arthur Young; Lady Alice BUCKNILL; wife of Sir John Bucknill; Sir William George MAXWELL (1871-1959); acting Colonial Secretary, Straits Settlements 1914-1916; Sir Edward Lewis BROCKMAN (1865-1943); Chief Secretary, Federated Malay States 1911-1920; Admiral (Sir) William Lowther GRANT (1864-1929); Commander in Chief, China Station 1916-1917; General (Sir) Dudley Howard RIDOUT (1866-1941); commanding troops, Straits Settlements 1915-1921; OLIVER; Staff Officer; Frederick Joseph WELD (1870-) ; Malayan Civil Service 1888-1918; acting General Adviser, Johore 1916.
