School Empire Tour Committee, 1925 - 1949
Scope and Contents
This committee was set up by the Church of England Council of Empire Settlement in Nov. 1925 and organised a visit to Australia. Its Honorary Secretary was Margaret Mary Best. Although never formally part of the RES, its Chairman from 1927 was Dr. M. J. Rendall, Chairman of the RES Imperial Studies Committee. From 1936 the committee's Tour office was housed in the RES. It dissolved in 1944. Most of its records were destroyed during the bombing of the HQ in 1941, but some minute books, reports, correspondence and lists of tours and participants survived.
