Laager, Tuli River, 1890

 Item
Reference Code: GBR/0115/RCS/Y3052A/37

Scope and Contents

Showing pioneer wagons laagered in a circle near the Tuli River with the searchlight steam-engine visible in the background (see Y3052A/30). Tuli was reached on July 1 and occupied until July 11 when a column consisting of 180 pioneers, 200 police, 62 wagons and a number of small prospecting parties started to cross the Tuli River. This party was preceded by Captain Hoste and B Troop who crossed the river on July 6 and forged ahead cutting the road towards the Umzingwani River 50 miles from Tuli. The delay at Tuli was occasioned by the necessity of waiting for stores to be brought up from Macloutsie.
