View of the Royal Observatory Greenwich from the south-east, 1845-07-14
Scope and Contents
Pencil drawing of the Royal Observatory Greenwich, thought to be the work of Elizabeth Smith. This drawing shows the Altazimuth Dome (middle of the image) between the hot house and the Quadrant Room. Airy built the three-storey Altazimuth Dome, with its low wooden drum, in 1844.
Similar views of the Observatory by Elizabeth and her sister, Caroline Smith, drawn before the addition of the Altazimuth Dome, can be seen at [RGO 116/3/2] and [RGO 116/4/1-2]. A closer view of the dome is at [RGO 116/3/14].
