The original envelope was labelled in Aelfrida Tillyard's hand: 'Letters after Mauritzberg [the Convent of St John the Divine, Pietermaritzburg, Natal] Dec 1942 - From Mkambati, S. Barnabas (1943) St Cuthbert's'. The letters are mostly addressed from St Margaret's Hostel, St Cuthbert's Mission; also from Mkambati Leper Institution, Pondoland (2 Dec 1942 - 3 Jan 1943) and St Barnabas Mission, Pondoland, Jan 7 and 13 1943. The letters contain occasional sketches and photographs.
