 File
Reference Code: GBR/0271/GCRF 4/1/14

Scope and Contents

Letter from Christopher Peto, 27 January 1998, with an account of his wife Valida Joan Turner (Girton 1946-1949) being caught by the Proctors after visiting him in his digs in October 1948 without her gown. This was a new offence for women undergraduates as they had only just become members of the University. Included are Valida Turner's chit and receipt for her fine of six shillings and eight pence and a letter from her Girton Tutor, Rosemary Syfret. There is also a cutting from The Evening Standard, 30 October 1948 and from Varsity [October 1948].
