Scope and Contents

Typescript memory pictures, as follows: The Earliest Memory of All [published in Dec. 1953 as Blessings - The First Blessing] - 5 pages, including memories of attending St Andrew's Street Baptist Church; 5. My Little Brother - Conrad Francis [published Mar 1954] - 5 pages of memories of AT's younger brother Conrad, who died of diptheria when aged a little less than 3 years old, when AT was 5; 6. My Father - written in the form of a letter to 'Dearest Oracle', [1954], 10 pages, including information on Alfred Isaac Tillyard's early years in Norwich and up to his marriage to Katie Wetenhall; 4. Mrs Venn - 5 pages of memories of Susannah Venn, wife of Dr Venn, fellow and librarian of Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge and mother of Archie Venn, whom SV wished AT to marry; The Strawberry Eater - 36 pages re Mrs Lilly Grove, acting in her French plays, her daughter Lily Grove, Dr J G Frazer of Trinity College, Cambridge, the Stanley family of Cambridge, Quicky [AT's younger brother Eustace's nickname as a baby], and AT's first meeting with her friend Lucy Longstaffe in Littlehampton [1956]; God - and Gods and Goddesses - 6 pages re AT's early religious upbringing and education in Greek mythology; A Wet Sunday at Fordfield [published Dec 1955] - 9 page description of family games and other activities, circa 1888 [predates the death of AT's younger brother Conrad]; The Children we Played With - 5 pages re Mary and Oswin Creighton, the children of Prof Creighton, the Tillyards' next-door-neighbour in Brooklands Avenue and later Bishop of London; Mrs Lewis and Mrs Gibson - 10 pages re these two ladies, who were twins and fellow-worshippers at St Columba's Church, Downing Street [Agnes Lewis and Margaret Gibson, 'The Ladies of Castlebrae' - see also GCPP Duke 1/1].
