Scope and Contents

Most are written from Quarry Hill, Reigate. The sequence starts with a postcard on 29 April and then there is a gap until November 1903 when correspondence resumes. ES reports (3 Dec 1903 and following) that she is working at the ‘Evolution of Monocotyledons’ and comments on the award of a Royal Society medal to a woman for work in partnership with her husband. Long letter (11 Jan 1904) about A R’s rights as a Demonstrator (at University College London) and what she should expect in terms of time for and help with research. Other letters concern cutting sections (of Zizania, Jan 1904 and following) and a follow-up paper, advice on conducting experiments, exchange of seedlings, holidays, family and health matters.
