Biographical / Historical
Harriet Beecher Stowe, 1811-1896, was an American abolitionist and author. Her work included Uncle Tom's Cabin (1852). Her brother, Charles Beecher, 1815-1900, was an American author, minister and composer of religious hymns. Both corresponded with and visited Louise Swanton Belloc, who translated Uncle Tom's Cabin into French.
