Letter from Margaret Howitt to Bessie Belloc, addressed from Praderhof, Meran, Tyrol, Austria, 1891-04-10
Scope and Contents
Margaret thanks Bessie for her letter and for sending her a copy of the Paternoster Review. She is delighted that Bessie speaks of Margaret’s mother [Mary Howitt] like a ‘kindred soul’ and says Bessie’s poems about Rome are the best she knows about the city. Margaret is with the Hoffmanns, who still own Villa Celemontina in Rome though they no longer live there. She has let Marienruhe for a term of years and now has a ‘Tyrolese homestead near Brixen’, which Nannie [Leigh Smith] and Isabella [Blythe] know and like. They have been good friends to Margaret. Transcript only, 2 pages: original letter not extant.
