Letter from Bessie Parkes to Barbara Bodichon, addressed from Deal, 1862-09
Scope and Contents
Bessie has been in Belgium for three weeks, including a week in Bruges. She would rather visit Barbara in Algeria in the warm spring months which she has not seen there. She would like to see Mary M[erryweather] get the ‘Liverpool work into order’. She feels that the English Woman’s Journal would prosper if Max [Hays] resigned and that Emily Davies’ editorship would more than ‘cover the deficiency’. Max implies that she intends to live for a year in the country. Bessie gives her opinion of a ‘young woman’ [not named] of whom Barbara has inquired. Two pages.
