Letter from [Bessie Parkes] to Barbara Bodichon, addressed from Dublin, 1862-04-01
Scope and Contents
Bessie is getting over her fatigue. She describes the difficulty of organising her own time while in the whirl of working in London surrounded by the needs of others, including the worries of the V[ictoria] Press and its workforce of female printers. She says, however, that she does not get upset even though she is overworked, as she is quiet in her interior mind. She cites the complexities and vexations arising from a complaint against the Emigration Committee run by her and Miss [Maria] Rye. She is anxious about the English Woman’s Journal because the market has become more competitive in recent years and sales are uncertain, even though circulation remains steady. She hopes the EWJ will continue to flourish by working on steadily. [Letter incomplete.] Together with an envelope inscribed with Lady Iddesleigh’s comments.
