Letter from Bessie Parkes to Barbara Bodichon, addressed from 17 W[impole Street], 1862-01-22
Scope and Contents
Isa Craig has begun writing Barbara’s report and is working at a volume of transactions. Bessie asks Barbara to cut down the work of Madame Luce as she is too busy for any more writing. She does not intend to have a paper store away from Langham Place as she can’t bear the responsibility of a new undertaking. She will be away in March and April but will give Mr Munns sittings for a ‘medallion’. She discusses the French nature of recent articles in the English Woman’s Journal and describes herself as half French by her affinities. She has talked to Mr Cookson about wishing to see Max [Hays] placed elsewhere. Lady Monson is at Langham Place but has been unwell. Bessie feels she is living under incessant pressure, though she is very well this winter.
